Trump and his base vs science

A recent PEW Research report documents that only 17% of Republicans with a relatively high level of science knowledge believe that humans play a major role in global climate change while 89% of Democrats in the same category believe humans do play a major role.  Apparently ignorance and biases trump science and logic for Republicans.  Trump,of course, is the prime example.  There is no way to narrow this gap in perception.  No amount of education can overcome such deep resistance to ideas and facts that run counter these folks' bizarre beliefs.  That Trump not only was elected but still has the strong support of 40% of voters is testimony to how entrenched anger and ignorance is among his base.  These people feel they have been ignored by the elite, liberal class which they hate and found their savior in a compulsive liar and narcissist  who expertly manipulates them. Thanks to their misguided vote they are now paying the lion's share of the impact of the pandemic.  Trump's slow and botched response has prolonged the pandemic resulting in more deaths and a greater impact on the economy than had he acted sooner and smarter.  No surprise if you have been paying attention but, apparently, too many people have not.
